Raymond Masao Sawada was a Canadian professional ice hockey winger who was selected in the second round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Raymond Sawada played his junior hockey with the Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Hockey League. In his first season with the Clippers, Sawada scored 22 goals and 20 assists in 52 games. He followed up that performance with 32 goals and 37 assists in 57 games the following season.
After his second year with the Clippers, he moved on to play for the Cornell Big Red of the NCAA. Sawada played four seasons with the Big Red and finished with 95 points in 132 games.
In 2004, Sawada was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 52nd overall. After completing his college career, Sawada signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Stars. He made his NHL debut on October 10, 2008, against the Nashville Predators.
The player played in 11 games with the Stars during the 2008-09 season, registering one assist. He also played in 50 games with the Texas Stars of the AHL, where he had 14 goals and 13 assists.
He spent the next two seasons splitting time between the NHL and the AHL. In 2011, he signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues. Sawada played in 11 games with the Blues and 47 games with the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL.
After the 2011-12 season, Sawada signed with the Providence Bruins of the AHL. He played two seasons with the Bruins before announcing his retirement from professional hockey in 2014.
After retiring from hockey, he earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently works as a Senior Manager of Business Development at Amazon.
Sawada was of Japanese and Italian ancestry. After quitting the professional ice hockey league in 2016, Sawada joined the Burnaby, British Columbia, fire department and settled in Richmond with his wife Nicole and their two daughters.
