A Hugh Jackman Film Teased Wolverine's Costume Before Deadpool 3 (Nope, Not X-Men)

Given the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s current fascination with the multiverse and alternate timelines, it’s entirely possible that Hugh Jackman’s take on Wolverine in “Deadpool 3” isn’t the same version from the Fox franchise. However, if it is that exact incarnation of the character, director James Mangold doesn’t seem to agree with the use of the yellow costume. For those unfamiliar, Mangold directed “The Wolverine” and its 2017 sequel, “Logan,” meaning he was responsible for filming the unused yellow suit reveal scene for the former. Per a 2020 tweet, though, he never intended for Jackman’s Wolverine to wear it.

“He never put it on. We never even made a version of the outfit. Everything about his character as I understand it, would keep him from donning a self promoting ‘uniform,'” he wrote, helping justify why moviegoers never get to see that specific version of Logan put on the yellow suit. Granted, he does wear a black and orange X-Men uniform in a few of the “X-Men” films, but for the overwhelming majority of his time on screen, he’s wearing street clothes. After all, he’s not much of a team player, and he certainly doesn’t look at himself as a superhero, so why would he wear an over-the-top, flashy costume to draw attention to himself?

Regardless of Mangold’s feelings on the matter, the fact remains that Hugh Jackman will finally wear a comic-accurate Wolverine suit in “Deadpool 3,” bringing the nods from both “The Wolverine” and, surprisingly, “Flushed Away,” full circle.
